How do you create a sense of place when writing? There are many ways but I´m sure a very important one is through food. My second novel is currently weak on this point. While it is not set in a specific country, I want it to be recognisably Latin American. I´ve spent time in lots of different South and Central America countries, but not knowning I´d some day need the info, don´t seem to have paid enough attention to what was on my plate. So on this trip to Chile and Peru my husband and I are eating in the name of research. The above picture is of a local speciality, cuy, guinea pig to you and me. He enjoyed it, I couldn´t get the memory of Stripe, my childhood pet, out of my head!
