In 2013, real life – money, work, visas – got in the way of writing. It was all good positive stuff; NZ residency (yay!), finishing a teaching qualification, getting more responsibility at my day job – but none of it left much time in the day for what I always have and always will, really want to do – write.
2014 is a different kettle of fish. While I will go to work, the evenings and weekends are my own once more. It’s great – I’m writing! Here are the highlights so far:
That beautiful lie is taking shape. It still has a few problem areas, parts that need fleshing out and one whole storyline that needs to be changed from the 1st to 3rd person. But it’s getting there. What I have in my head is slowly forming on the page.
I have started workshopping again. A friend from my MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa has moved across the world to Auckland. I’ve used his arrival as the push I needed to set up a workshop. It’s so fun to be sharing ideas and getting feedback.
On Friday I’m off to Awhitu to talk at a book group. The lovely people there are putting me up in a B&B. I can’t wait! A full report will follow.
In short, 2014 looks to be an amazing year! What are your plans? Anything good lined up?
